Cranberry French 75

A slightly tart twist on a classic cocktail.

It’s said that in the 19th and early 20th centuries, sophisticated drinkers would create a cocktail out of gin and Champagne, together. This effervescent combination leant itself well to the addition of lemon and sugar and, voilà, the French 75 cocktail was born.

Why is it called a French 75?

Ironically, the cocktail isn’t named after an address, it’s named for a 75 millimeter field gun used by French soldiers during World War One.

What alcohol is in a French 75?

Sparkling wine (preferably Champagne) and gin.

When do people usually drink French 75 cocktails?

More than ever, French 75 cocktails are becoming the drink of choice at brunch. Maybe it’s because the alcohol content is higher than a Mimosa or Bellini, or maybe it’s simply because the cocktail is truly delicious. And when you use Dillon’s Cranberry Gin at a holiday or winter brunch, the slightly tart taste and signature flavour of local cranberries elevates the traditional French 75 into a new classic cocktail.
