Spiced Citrus Flip Cocktail

This cocktail takes advantage of seasonal citrus in combination with good rum.

When it comes to trends, rum is the new It spirit. Tropical drinks are fashionable again, including rum breezes, and rum consumption is ticking up in North America. With all this attention, distillers are upping their game with exciting premium rums that make great cocktail bases. Our Spiced Citrus Flip takes advantage of seasonal citrus in combination with very good rum. Serve in a coupe if you don’t have a Nick & Nora glass.

Citrus Rum Flip Cocktail

Seasonal citrus is paired up with really good rum.

Ingredients
  

Cocktail

  • 1 oz fresh tangerine juice
  • ¾ oz lemon juice
  • oz Flor de Caña Classico 12 rum
  • 1 cinnamon stick about 3 inches long
  • 1 oz honey syrup see tip
  • 2 star anise
  • ice

Honey Syrup

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup mild honey

Instructions
 

Cocktail

  • In a cocktail shaker, combine egg white, tangerine juice, lemon juice, Flor de Caña Classico 12 rum, cinnamon stick, honey syrup and 1 star anise. Shake without ice for 30 seconds. Fill with ice and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a Nick & Nora glass and garnish with the other star anise.

Honey Syrup

  • Combine boiling water with honey; stir to dissolve honey. Remove from heat. Chill. Makes 1 cup.
