Europe Day 2026: A Celebration Through Food

A culinary celebration of Europe and Canada.

Europe Day 2026 was a celebration of partnership, culture and shared traditions between the European Union and Canada — and food became one of the evening’s most powerful storytellers.

Created in partnership with ELLE Gourmet, the bespoke menu was designed to reflect “50 years of EU presence in Canada, in every bite,” bringing together European authentic ingredients and culinary traditions with locally sourced Canadian ingredients.

Guests explored a menu that travelled across Europe through flavour: wild mushroom arancini from Italy, Portugal’s pastéis de bacalhau, French smoked duck gougères and Croatian kremšnita, each paired with European wines, beers and spirits selected to complement the dishes. The experience highlighted the diversity of Europe’s culinary heritage while celebrating the quality of Canadian seasonal ingredients and producers.

A curated charcuterie and cheese selection showcased products from countries including Italy, France, Croatia, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, accompanied by house-made condiments crafted with local ingredients such as cranberries, pears, rhubarb and honey from nearby Chelsea, Quebec. One of the evening’s most personal touches came through the use of local honey and maple syrup from Le Vignoble de Chelsea, supplied as part of the culinary collaboration with My Catering Group, further grounding the European-inspired menu in Canadian terroir and craftsmanship.

The evening also featured remarks from EU Ambassador Geneviève Tuts and Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anita Indira Anand, whose presence underscored the strength and closeness of the EU–Canada relationship. In one of the evening’s most memorable moments, Minister Anand joined Ambassador Tuts and the “Notes Verbales” choir following their performance of “Ode to Joy” and “O Canada,” a symbolic reflection of the friendship between Europe and Canada.

Speakers and Special Moments

Beyond the food, the evening reflected the spirit of unity that defines the EU–Canada partnership. “The result was more than music; it was a reflection of what the European project stands for: diversity, unity and harmony, lived and felt.” This sentiment came to life as colleagues from the Delegation and EU diplomatic missions formed the choir “Notes Verbales,” performing both European and Canadian anthems side by side.

The celebration also marked the 50th anniversary of the Delegation of the European Union to Canada, with Niagara Falls illuminated in blue for the occasion.

At its heart, Europe Day was about connection — people coming together through culture, conversation and food — demonstrating how shared meals can tell a story of friendship across the Atlantic.
